Well after months of leaks and speculation it has finally happed Ubisoft’s XDefiant has announced that it will be sunset by June of next year. The decision was made due to poor player numbers and a lack of player spending on the in game store, according to sources familiar with the decision to sunset the game.
Season 3 will be the last entire season of XDefiant, with a skeleton crew maintaining the title until shutdown in June 2025. For those who purchased the Ultimate Founders Pack, you will receive a full refund. Players who made any purchases within the last 30 days will also be fully refunded. Processing the refunds will take up to 8 weeks.
They made the announcement over on twitter as well as a personal message from Executive Producer, Mark Rubin.
This is sad to see not just for the player but the people at the studio that will inevitably be out of the job after this. Ubisoft is hemorrhaging not only money but great talent and we wish everyone who will be affected by this shutdown the best of luck and hope that Ubisoft can sort themselves out so that no one else needs to be put in this situation again.
