According to credible leaker Gabe Follower, who has a history of leaking similar information on previous Valve titles, most notably Deadlock last year.
His sources have revealed that HLX (Half-Life 3) started playtests for Family and Friends of Valve developers the past few months. And that’s not the only evidence that Valve has something big cooking even if it’s not Half Life 3.
- Valve continues to hire AAA devs (newcomers and veterans) from across the industry
- OG/Old ex-Valve devs who were there for HL2/Portal/L4D are working at the company again after being gone for years
- One of the sample projects of one of the recently hired artists
- More datamined code on gravity alteration, thermodynamic simulation, etc.
- References to Nvidia CUDA Cores which he speculates to either be for raytracing or physics calculations
- Most importantly, Valve have expanded from internal dev-team playtests into Family&Friends Playtesting.

While the information doesn’t give us much information into what Half-Life 3 or whatever this game ends up being is all the info would have us believe that that game is progressing pretty well.
So fingers crossed we will get a official announcement in 2025 and when we do we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
