In a shocking turn of events, Until Dawn remake developer Ballistic Moon has been reported to have “effectively closed,”
Ballistic Moon is a relatively new development studio founded by former members of the team behind Until Dawn, one of the most critically acclaimed horror games of the PlayStation 4 era. Until Dawn originally launched in 2015, garnering praise for its branching narrative, cinematic style, and thrilling choices that led to different outcomes. The game, developed by Supermassive Games, has become a cult favorite in the horror genre, and its success has led to a resurgence of interest in narrative-driven horror games.
Reports suggest that Ballistic Moon has been “effectively closed,” meaning that the studio’s operations have either been scaled back or completely shut down. While the specifics behind the closure remain unclear, several factors may have contributed to the company’s downfall. Development struggles, funding issues, and potential mismanagement could have played a role in the studio’s inability to sustain its operations.
According to InsiderGaming, however, “multiple sources” say that along with the 40 employees let go in September, 20 more developers have since been “quietly laid off,” too, with “only the studio’s founders” and “possibly” a handful of staff “at most” left.
At the time of writing, there’s been no formal update from Ballistic on the report.
