Crystal Dynamics, renowned for developing the Tomb Raider series, has announced the layoff of 17 employees. The studio stated that this decision was made “to better align our current business needs and the studio’s future success” and emphasized that it does not reflect the dedication or abilities of those affected.
“Ultimately, this step was necessary to better align our current business needs and the studio’s future success,” the statement reads. “It is not a reflection of the dedication or ability of those affected.
“We recognize how painful this outcome is for those impacted and we are supporting them with transition packages and opportunity outreach.”The statement ended with the studio saying that it “remains committed to pushing the boundaries of making great games” nor does it change any of their current projects.
Despite these layoffs, Crystal Dynamics assures that the development of ongoing projects, including a new Tomb Raider game and a reboot of Perfect Dark, will proceed as planned.
This move follows a series of organizational changes within the company. In September 2023, Crystal Dynamics laid off nine marketing personnel and one IT worker, stating that these cuts would not impact the development of Perfect Dark and Tomb Raider.
