Riot is Reportedly Filming a Live-Action League of Legends Series in Vietnam

Will the Pirate Haven of Bilgewater Be Brought to Life in Vietnam?

Riot Games is reportedly developing a live-action television series based on its popular game, League of Legends. The production is said to consist of nine episodes, with filming scheduled to begin in late 2025.

Vietnam’s picturesque Cát Bà Islands have been identified as the primary filming location. Producer Rose Lam, known for her work on the Emmy-winning adaptation of The Last of Us, led the production team in scouting various Asian countries before selecting Vietnam.

The Vietnamese government has expressed enthusiasm about the project, viewing it as an opportunity to promote the country’s tourism and cultural appeal. Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Nguyễn Văn Hùng, met with Riot Games representatives to discuss the collaboration, emphasizing the importance of preserving environmental and legal standards during filming.

While Riot Games has not officially confirmed details about the series’ storyline, speculation suggests that the Cát Bà Islands’ setting could align with regions in the League of Legends universe, such as Bilgewater, Ionia, or the Shadow Isles.

The series is expected to be available for streaming on platforms like Netflix and HBO upon its release. As official announcements are pending, fans are advised to await further updates from Riot Games and the production team.
