Nintendo’s Korean website recently revealed key art for the upcoming game Donkey Kong Bananza, inadvertently disclosing significant plot details ahead of the official announcement. The artwork features a character resembling a younger version of Pauline, who previously appeared in the original Donkey Kong arcade game and later in Super Mario Odyssey as the mayor of New Donk City.
In the image, this Pauline-like character is depicted alongside Donkey Kong, sparking discussions about her role in the game’s narrative. Notably, she wears a purple bracelet that matches the design of the “Odd Rock,” a mysterious crystalline entity introduced in the game’s initial teaser. This has led to theories suggesting a connection between the character and the Odd Rock, possibly indicating a transformation or significant relationship within the game’s storyline.
The accidental leak has ignited fan speculation regarding the game’s plot, particularly concerning the backstory of Donkey Kong and Pauline’s relationship. Some fans propose that the game might serve as a prequel, exploring their history and offering new insights into the Mario universe’s lore.
Donkey Kong Bananza is scheduled for release on July 17, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo has yet to officially address the leaked information.
