Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will not feature a system-wide achievement system, maintaining the company’s tradition of omitting this feature from its consoles. This means there will be no universal platform-wide tracking of achievements as seen on Xbox or PlayStation systems.
However, individual game developers have the option to implement their own achievement systems within their titles. For example, Ubisoft may continue to offer achievements through its Ubisoft Connect platform, though these would not appear on a player’s Nintendo profile.
In lieu of a comprehensive achievement system, the Switch 2 will introduce other features to enhance player engagement. Notably, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom” will include medal tracking via the Nintendo Switch phone app. This system will log activities such as covering long distances or collecting rupees, allowing players to compare their accomplishments globally.
Additionally, the Switch 2 will debut a new social feature called GameChat, enabling up to 12 users to share screens, engage in video chats using a USB-C camera, or communicate directly via the console. This functionality aims to replicate and expand upon the communal aspects of platforms like Discord, enhancing social interactivity directly on the console.
These developments reflect Nintendo’s focus on enhancing social connectivity and personalized gaming experiences, even without a traditional achievement system.
