Blizzard has officially revealed its next major collaboration for Overwatch 2, teaming up with the legendary anime franchise Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. The crossover goes live April 29, 2025, just in time to celebrate Gundam Wing’s 30th anniversary.
After months of speculation and leaks, Blizzard has finally confirmed what many Overwatch and anime fans have been waiting for: an Overwatch 2 x Gundam Wing collaboration and brings with it a series of limited-time skins and cosmetics inspired by the iconic mechs of Gundam Wing.
Four Hero Skins Inspired by Legendary Mobile Suits
The highlight of the crossover is a set of four premium skins based on some of Gundam Wing‘s most memorable mobile suits:
- Mercy gets the Wing Gundam Zero (Endless Waltz version) skin, blending her aerial finesse with the most iconic Gundam in the series.
- Ramattra transforms into Gundam Epyon, matching the omnic’s aggressive style with the crimson-colored, beam-whip-wielding mobile suit.
- Reaper channels Gundam Deathscythe, a perfect thematic fit for the cloaked, dual-shotgun-wielding assassin.
- Soldier: 76 dons the sleek white-and-blue armor of Tallgeese, nodding to his militaristic roots and precise combat style.
While Blizzard has yet to show full previews of each skin, leaks have indicated high-fidelity models with unique animations and VFX—similar in scale to previous collabs like One Punch Man and Cowboy Bebop.
Event Details and Season 16 Tie-In
The Overwatch 2 x Gundam Wing event will launch as part of Season 16, which also introduces a brand-new competitive mode called Stadium. The new mode brings hero bans and a role queue system, aiming to shake up the game’s ranked scene with more strategic depth.
The collaboration event is expected to last at least two weeks, with all skins and cosmetics available through the in-game shop. No free unlocks have been confirmed yet, though Blizzard may include themed challenges or Twitch Drops to reward players during the event.
Why Gundam Wing?
Released in Japan in 1995 and later aired on Toonami in the early 2000s, Gundam Wing holds a special place in anime history as many Western fans’ first exposure to the Gundam franchise. With its blend of high-stakes drama, war themes, and stylish mobile suit designs, the series remains one of the most beloved entries in the Gundam universe.
The crossover marks Overwatch 2’s first collaboration with a mecha anime, and the choice of Wing—with its sleek, iconic designs—feels like a natural fit for the game’s diverse hero roster.
More to Come?
Blizzard has a history of expanding its crossover events with additional cosmetics, such as highlight intros, sprays, and voice lines. While the focus now is on the four skins, it’s likely more Gundam-themed content will drop in the days leading up to or following the launch.
With interest from both anime fans and Overwatch veterans peaking, this collaboration has the potential to be one of Blizzard’s biggest crossover events yet.
