Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake has officially surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide, making it the fastest-selling title in the long-running survival horror franchise.
The publisher confirmed the news in a press release on April 25, citing strong digital sales, continued demand across multiple platforms, and sustained interest since the game’s launch in March 2023.
“Thanks to the support of our passionate fanbase and the dedication of our development team, Resident Evil 4 remake has reached this incredible milestone,” Capcom stated.
Rapid Rise
Capcom’s strategy of revitalizing its classic titles continues to pay off, with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 also receiving remakes in recent years. But RE4‘s success puts it in a league of its own. Not only has it outpaced previous remakes in terms of sales, but it’s also garnered multiple Game of the Year nominations and sits among the highest-rated releases of 2023.
A Legacy Reborn
The original Resident Evil 4 was a landmark release for Capcom and gaming as a whole, widely credited with reshaping the third-person shooter genre. The 2023 remake honored that legacy while introducing quality-of-life improvements, reimagined environments, and a darker tone that resonated with both longtime fans and newcomers.
Players once again stepped into the boots of Leon S. Kennedy, now on a mission to rescue the U.S. President’s daughter from a sinister cult in rural Spain. What followed was a high-octane, nerve-shredding adventure filled with grotesque enemies, haunting setpieces, and some of the tightest shooting mechanics in any modern game.
The remake also introduced new side quests, overhauled boss fights, expanded stealth mechanics, and a new take on the fan-favorite “Mercenaries” mode—keeping the gameplay loop fresh even for those intimately familiar with the original.
While Capcom hasn’t confirmed its next Resident Evil project, speculation continues to swirl around potential remakes of Resident Evil 5 or Code: Veronica. Additionally, reports from earlier this year hinted that a Resident Evil 9 reveal may be on the horizon, potentially launching in 2026.
Whatever comes next, it’s clear that Resident Evil is more alive than ever.
