The long-awaited Chinese Soulslike, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, finally has a release date — and it’s sooner than expected.
Leenzee Games and publisher 505 Games have officially confirmed that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers will launch on July 24, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Even better? The dark fantasy action RPG will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
A Dark Journey Through War-Torn China
Set during the chaotic fall of the Ming Dynasty, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers follows Bai Wuchang, a cursed pirate warrior battling both internal and external demons in a decaying world ravaged by disease and supernatural corruption. The game blends historical realism with grotesque mythological elements, drawing comparisons to titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Bloodborne.
The core gameplay loop revolves around exploration, precise melee combat, and uncovering the secrets behind the mysterious “Feathering Disease” — a grotesque affliction that gives Wuchang demonic powers at a cost.
According to the developers, the game features:
- 25 melee weapons ranging from dual blades to heavy halberds
- 40 spells tied to five unique skill trees
- A branching narrative with multiple endings
- Large, interconnected zones with secrets and shortcuts to discover
- A unique “Inner Demon” mechanic that affects both combat and story progression
Two Editions Available for Pre-Order
Pre-orders for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers are live now, with two editions up for grabs:
- Standard Edition – Includes the “Night & White” DLC pack with two costumes, a unique sword, and a skill upgrade item.
- Deluxe Edition – Adds four more costumes, four additional weapons, and another upgrade item.
Players who pre-order either version will gain early access to a digital artbook and soundtrack.
Built with Unreal Engine 5
Leenzee has confirmed that Wuchang is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and early gameplay footage showcases rich environmental detail, dynamic lighting, and seamless traversal through haunted forests, crumbling temples, and mist-shrouded villages. Combat animations have also received praise for their fluidity and impact.
The studio has also emphasized the game’s commitment to authentic Chinese history, while maintaining creative freedom for its fantasy elements. “We want players to feel immersed in this era of cultural collapse, but we’re not afraid to lean into horror,” said the creative director during a recent press event.
After several years in development limbo, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is shaping up to be one of 2025’s biggest surprises in the action-RPG space. With a solid gameplay foundation, haunting aesthetic, and Game Pass availability, it could very well be this year’s sleeper hit in the Soulslike genre.
We’ll be watching closely to see if it delivers when it launches July 24.
