Ezio Auditore Returns in August via Reverse: 1999 Crossover Event

The Renaissance Assassin Returns—But Not Where You’d Expect.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze—one of the most iconic protagonists in video game history—is making an unexpected return this August in a global crossover event with the stylish, time-bending RPG Reverse: 1999.

The collaboration between Bluepoch Games and Ubisoft marks the first ever globally synchronized event in Reverse: 1999, launching simultaneously across iOS, Android, and PC platforms. More importantly, it signals the return of Ezio, Assassin’s Creed’s legendary Renaissance assassin, for the first time in a playable role since Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (outside of remasters and cameo appearances).

Per a press release:

The partnership between Reverse: 1999 and the Assassin’s Creed franchise marks the first-ever globally synched version of Reverse: 1999. All servers will launch the collaboration events at the same time, ensuring equality and unified progress of rewards for players worldwide.

Legendary Assassin’s Creed 2 character Ezio will make his debut in Reverse: 1999 during the collaboration. Each of the two phases of this crossover event will bring a fresh new story to the time-travelling game.

Two Eras, One Crossover

The crossover, set to go live in two phases throughout August, merges the historical intrigue of Assassin’s Creed with the surreal, narrative-heavy design of Reverse: 1999. In Phase I, players will be transported to Renaissance Florence—Ezio’s home turf—where he teams up with Vertin, the protagonist of Reverse: 1999, to investigate a temporal anomaly threatening the fabric of time itself.

According to early leaks and official teases, this chapter will allow players to explore key landmarks from Assassin’s Creed II, while experiencing newly written dialogue and turn-based battles designed specifically for the Reverse engine.

Phase II of the crossover expands the scope even further. The action shifts to ancient Greece, bringing in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Kassandra and Alexios as additional allies. The crossover storyline will reportedly tie into the overarching narrative of Reverse: 1999‘s time distortion mechanics while honoring the philosophical and mythological themes of Odyssey.

A Unique Fusion of Styles

For Ubisoft, the collaboration represents a strategic move to reintroduce legacy characters to younger audiences through mobile-first titles. For Bluepoch, it’s a bold play to bolster Reverse: 1999’s growing global presence with an instantly recognizable IP.

“This event is a love letter to fans of both franchises,” a Bluepoch Games spokesperson told Insider Gaming. “It’s not just a cameo—Ezio is deeply involved in the story, and we’ve worked closely with Ubisoft to ensure his character stays true to what made him beloved in the first place.”

Gameplay-wise, Ezio will be a limited-time 6-star playable unit with stealth-focused abilities, time manipulation perks, and cinematic finishers inspired by his original hidden blade executions. Kassandra and Alexios will be introduced later as part of Phase II’s unlockable content.

Fan Reactions & Future Potential

Community reception to the announcement has been largely positive. Veteran fans of Assassin’s Creed are praising Ubisoft for finding a way to revisit Ezio without overreliance on full remakes, while Reverse: 1999 players are excited to see how the franchise’s historical roots blend with the game’s surreal 20th-century aesthetic.

With Ubisoft preparing for the upcoming launch of Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, and rumors swirling about a full-fledged Assassin’s Creed remake project in development, Ezio’s presence in this crossover could be more than just a one-off. It might signal a broader trend: legacy character revival through experimental storytelling.

Reverse: 1999 x Assassin’s Creed launches August 2025 across all platforms. Ezio Auditore will be available as part of a limited-time banner and story event.
