In a move that’s sure to excite long-time fans of the franchise, Hasbro’s in-house studio Atomic Arcade has released the first in-engine look at its upcoming G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes AAA video game. Developed by a supergroup of former developers from top-tier studios like Bethesda, Warner Bros., Marvel Games, Epic, Eidos-Montréal, and Naughty Dog, the project is shaping up to be the most ambitious G.I. Joe title to date.
A Ninja-Commando Reborn
The teaser images shared by Atomic Arcade give us a gritty, stylized take on Snake Eyes, the iconic silent commando of the G.I. Joe universe. Wielding a blood-stained katana etched with the Arashikage Clan emblem and a tactical rifle, Snake Eyes is seen in a reimagined suit — a sleek black ensemble with green accents that calls back to his 1985 action figure.

While the visuals are early and come from a pre-production build, there’s a clear tone being set here: dark, modern, and cinematic. The developers describe the game as a “bold reimagining” of the G.I. Joe mythos, focusing on grounded storytelling, visceral third-person combat, and atmospheric exploration.
AAA Talent Behind the Mask
What makes this project stand out isn’t just the IP — it’s the team. Atomic Arcade boasts talent from some of the most respected studios in the world. According to the studio’s leadership, developers who have worked on The Elder Scrolls, Arkham, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Uncharted, and Destiny are all contributing to this ambitious title.

“We’re making something for fans who’ve grown up with Snake Eyes but also for players who might be discovering him for the first time,” said studio founder and creative director David Michels. “This isn’t just nostalgia — this is a full-on, next-gen action experience.”
Gameplay Inspirations and Direction
While specific gameplay footage hasn’t been shown yet, Lead Systems Designer Rob Watkins has cited Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, God of War (2018), and Ghost of Tsushima as core inspirations. That should give players a good idea of the direction: a narrative-driven, action-heavy third-person experience with a strong focus on melee and stealth combat.
The team aims to deliver open-ended levels that balance cinematic moments with exploration and tactical decision-making — a mix between tightly scripted set pieces and organic discovery.

According to Atomic Arcade’s first development blog, the game is still in pre-production. The studio is currently working on a vertical slice — a playable demonstration that showcases all core gameplay systems, art direction, and performance targets. No platforms have been confirmed yet, but given the AAA scope, expect current-gen consoles and PC to be the baseline.
A New Era for G.I. Joe
Hasbro’s move into high-end gaming via Wizards of the Coast and Atomic Arcade signals a larger trend: legacy IPs are being reborn for modern audiences through prestige interactive projects. With Dungeons & Dragons games expanding, it’s clear that Hasbro is making a serious play in the AAA gaming space.
If done right, G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes could be a breakout hit — not just for fans of the franchise, but for action game enthusiasts across the board. The early look is promising, the talent is undeniable, and the character? One of the coolest in military-fantasy pop culture.
