The Outer Worlds 2 Pre-Orders Allegedly Go Live This Monday Following Xbox Showcase

Get ready to return to Halcyon—pre-orders for Obsidian’s spacefaring sequel may be just days away.

It looks like Obsidian’s next big spacefaring adventure could be landing in our pre-order queues sooner than expected.

According to a new report from reliable insider Billbil-kun (via Dealabs), pre-orders for The Outer Worlds 2 will reportedly go live this Sunday immediately after the Xbox Games Showcase. If true, this would mark a surprise drop that mirrors recent trends of “available now” announcements following major presentations.

The timing tracks. Microsoft has been known to pull this move before, and with The Outer Worlds 2 expected to feature prominently during the June 9 (AEST) showcase, opening up pre-orders right after the reveal would be a bold but welcome move.

While we still don’t have a locked-in release date, this news suggests a significant update is imminent likely including a new trailer and possibly even a launch window. The game, which was first revealed back in 2021 with a cheeky teaser poking fun at typical sequel tropes, has remained mostly under wraps ever since. But fans of the original us included have been waiting patiently (okay, maybe not so patiently) for more.

What Platforms Will It Launch On?

The report indicates The Outer Worlds 2 will be heading to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Unsurprisingly, it’ll also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass a move that continues Microsoft’s push for subscription-first experiences.

Right now, the game is wishlistable on Steam, but there’s no option to actually pre-order just yet. That could change within hours of the showcase, so keep those F5 keys ready if you’re looking to secure a copy early.

When and Where to Watch the Showcase

The Xbox Games Showcase kicks off on Monday, June 9 at 3 a.m. AEST for those of us in Australia. That’s a bit of an early one (or a very late one, depending on your sleep schedule), but if you’re eager to see more from Obsidian and possibly even a release date this might be the one to stay up for.

You can watch the full showcase live on Xbox’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.

Why We’re Hyped

Here at 1-Up Games, we adored the first Outer Worlds. It was a snappy, choice-driven RPG with biting satire, a gorgeous art style, and some of the best player agency since New Vegas. If Obsidian is taking everything they learned and doubling down, The Outer Worlds 2 could be a massive leap forward not just a bigger game, but a better one.

Whether the leak pans out or not, we won’t have to wait long to find out. Stay tuned we’ll be covering the Xbox Games Showcase in full and breaking down every announcement as it happens.
