Double Fine and Microsoft Announce Keeper A Wordless Puzzle Adventure Arriving October 2025

Guide the light. Discover the past. Become the Keeper.

During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft and Double Fine Productions officially unveiled Keeper, a unique third-person puzzle adventure game launching October 17, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. As expected from the developers of Psychonauts and Stacking, Keeper promises a whimsical yet emotionally resonant experience told entirely without words.

A Light in the Darkness

In Keeper, players take control of a sentient lighthouse brought to life on a surreal, mysterious island. Accompanied by a lively seabird companion, the lighthouse must traverse a series of lush, hand-crafted environments from eerie forests and cavernous ruins to decaying robot-inhabited villages while uncovering the secrets of the world and its own identity.

But this is not just a sightseeing tour. A creeping darkness threatens the land, and it’s up to the lighthouse to use its literal beacon to repel the corruption and restore balance. With no dialogue, the game relies on environmental storytelling, musical cues, and visual design to weave a rich, emotional narrative.

Puzzle-Solving With Purpose

At its core, Keeper is a puzzle adventure. Players will manipulate ancient mechanisms, interact with the environment through beams of light, and team up with the bird companion to overcome obstacles. The puzzles aren’t just for the sake of gameplay they’re integral to progressing through the story and bringing light to areas swallowed by shadow.

Lee Petty, known for Stacking, Headlander, and RAD, leads the project, and his signature style is unmistakable. Keeper combines quirky charm with artistic depth, blending Double Fine’s storytelling sensibilities with tactile, satisfying gameplay.

Coming This October

Keeper launches October 17, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, offering players a chance to experience this whimsical, wordless world without additional cost. The game also supports play via the Microsoft Store and Steam for PC users.

As with many Double Fine games, Keeper feels destined to be more than just a puzzle platformer it’s shaping up to be a heartfelt journey about purpose, memory, and illumination in the darkest of places.
