Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awakens Everything You Need to Know

Symbiotes Rise. The Phoenix Burns. The Abyss Awakens.

Marvel Rivals is ramping up the intensity with Season 3: The Abyss Awakens, launching on July 11, 2025 across PC and consoles. After a stellar reception during early access, this season unleashes dark cosmic forces, two fan-favourite heroes, and an evolving roadmap packed with competitive features and twisted alternate timelines. Here’s everything we know so far.

The Story: The Abyss Awakens

Season 3 pivots Marvel Rivals into its most ominous arc yet. The cosmic symbiote god Knull awakens deep within the remains of a Celestial, now known as the planet Klyntar the birthplace of symbiotes. His return sets off a chain reaction of darkness across the multiverse.

  • Hela, once the ruler of Hel, has now been corrupted into the Queen in Black, acting as Knull’s herald.
  • Phoenix (Jean Grey) senses the cosmic disruption and teams up with Blade, the vampire hunter, to contain this threat.
  • Symbiotes begin infecting other heroes, twisting both the landscape and familiar characters.

This isn’t just a seasonal story; it’s a full narrative shift, laying groundwork for future hero “corruptions,” new villain alliances, and potentially even playable Knull content in the future.

🔥 New Playable Heroes

1. Phoenix (Jean Grey)Available July 11

Jean Grey returns in all her fiery glory. Wielding telekinetic powers and the destructive might of the Phoenix Force, she’s a Duelist-class hero with immense power scaling and synergy potential.

Core Mechanics:

  • Telekinetic Barrage: A versatile medium-range ability that deals splash damage.
  • Chain Reaction (Passive): Hitting multiple targets in succession causes a resonance explosion.
  • Phoenix Resurrection (Ultimate): Jean merges with the Phoenix Force, unleashing a massive AOE firestorm that clears enemy summons and applies Burn-Trace status.

Team-Up Highlight:

  • Phoenix + Wolverine: Enhances Logan’s “Feral Leap” with flame damage on impact.
  • Phoenix + Magik: Boosts Magik’s sword with a burning slash effect.

2. BladeArriving in Season 3.5 (August 8)

The Daywalker is finally here. A frontline Duelist, Blade thrives in close-quarters combat and excels at hunting down heroes who rely on healing or stealth.

Core Abilities:

  • Blood Strike: A lunging slash with a fiery sword, dealing high burst damage.
  • Vampiric Surge (Passive): Heals a portion of damage dealt to bleeding targets.
  • Midnight Frenzy (Ultimate): Blade transforms into a vampiric beast form, gaining speed, regeneration, and lifesteal for a short duration.

Synergy: Blade is designed to punish tanks and high-mobility characters, making him an ideal anti-meta pick in Ranked play.

New Map: Klyntar – Celestial Husk

Season 3’s new battleground is nothing short of epic. Set inside the corpse of a fallen Celestial, Klyntar is a twisted, symbiote-ravaged warzone.

Map Features:

  • Symbiote-infested terrain that shifts dynamically over the match.
  • Traversable tendrils and corrupted growths that act as soft cover.
  • Environmental hazards including void zones that drain abilities.

This is one of Marvel Rivals’ most ambitious maps to date combining verticality, environmental storytelling, and reactive elements.
