Ubisoft’s big release Star Wars Outlaws didn’t quite hit the sales marks everyone hoped for, and according to Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot, it’s not just about the game itself. He believes the bigger issue lies with the Star Wars brand, which has been facing some bumps recently.
Guillemot explained that the timing wasn’t ideal. The Star Wars franchise, while still hugely popular, has had its share of ups and downs lately, and that may have dampened enthusiasm for new titles like Outlaws. Despite the game getting decent reviews and solid player ratings, it just didn’t catch on the way Ubisoft expected.
What’s interesting is that Ubisoft poured a ton of resources into promoting the game it’s reportedly one of their most heavily marketed titles ever. Yet, even with all that hype, sales were softer than predicted. It seems that marketing can only do so much when the wider brand perception is shaky.
In response, Ubisoft isn’t giving up. They’ve been actively rolling out updates and fixes based on player feedback, aiming to improve the overall experience and hopefully reignite interest. Investors have taken notice, and while some are a bit concerned, Ubisoft’s leadership remains confident in their approach.
At the end of the day, this situation shows how even big-name franchises can hit rough patches, and how those ups and downs ripple out to the games built around them. Ubisoft is playing the long game here, trying to turn things around with Star Wars Outlaws, and it’ll be interesting to see how the game evolves from here.
