Pokémon TCG Pocket Developers Tease Major Update for 2025

Big Update Inbound

Fans of Pokémon TCG Pocket may want to start making room in their binders. The game’s developers, DeNA and The Pokémon Company, have confirmed that a “major update” is on the way before the end of this year, promising to shake up how players collect, trade, and manage their cards.

The announcement came during DeNA’s latest fiscal report, where the studio hinted at plans to “enhance the collection experience” in 2025. While the exact details are still under wraps, early information points to sweeping adjustments aimed at making the game’s systems feel more rewarding and less restrictive.

One of the headline changes involves the complete removal of the controversial Trade Token system. Since launch, these tokens have acted as a gatekeeper for card trading, frustrating players who found them too scarce or restrictive. In their place, the update will introduce a new currency called shinedust, earned automatically by pulling duplicate cards. This change is designed to give collectors a steady path toward acquiring the cards they want, without having to rely on limited-time or random drops.

The update will also bring broader trading options. Cards with a two-star rarity or higher, along with certain promotional cards, will be eligible for trades something many players have been requesting since the game’s debut. Additional quality-of-life features, such as the ability to share trade wishlists with friends, are also on the table.

While the team hasn’t nailed down an exact release date, sources suggest the overhaul could land by autumn. That timing would position it perfectly for a late-year push, potentially aligning with seasonal events or in-game celebrations.

If these changes land as intended, Pokémon TCG Pocket could feel very different by the time the year is out. For a game built on the joy of collecting, trading, and showing off your best pulls, that’s the kind of “major update” fans have been hoping for.
