Control 2 Development Gets Update From Remedy As Series Crosses 5 Million Copies Sold

Great News

Remedy Entertainment has shared a fresh update on Control 2 while revealing a major sales milestone for the series.

The studio announced that Control and its expansions have now sold more than 5 million copies worldwide since their initial launch in 2019. The supernatural action-adventure title has steadily built a dedicated fanbase over the years, bolstered by critical acclaim, strong word-of-mouth, and additional exposure through platforms like Xbox Game Pass.

Alongside the sales news, Remedy offered a brief status report on Control 2. The sequel, first confirmed in late 2022, is currently deep in production, with the development team “making good progress” according to the studio. While specifics remain under wraps, Remedy reiterated its goal of delivering a larger, more ambitious experience that expands on the surreal world and mind-bending narrative of the original.

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, expressed gratitude for the sustained interest in Control. “Passing 5 million copies sold is a remarkable achievement for us,” he said. “It’s a testament to the quality of the game and the dedication of our players. With Control 2, we’re aiming to take everything people loved about the first game and push it even further.”

No release date or gameplay footage for Control 2 has been shared yet, but Remedy has previously hinted that the project will be built on its proprietary Northlight engine and will retain the series’ blend of cinematic storytelling and dynamic combat. Fans can expect more information “when the time is right,” suggesting that the studio is taking its time to ensure the sequel lives up to expectations.

With the original game still drawing in new players years after release, anticipation for Control 2 is steadily building. If Remedy can replicate and surpass the magic of the first title, the sequel could become one of the most anticipated releases of the next few years.
