Gamescom Opening Night Live Is Happening Tonight Here’s All the Aussie Times and How to Watch

Very Early or Late Depending on your sleep schedule

Gamescom is back for another year, and once again, the show will be kicking off with Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live. The event has built a reputation for big reveals, surprise trailers, and a few awkward celebrity cameos, and this year’s showcase is shaping up to be no different.

The catch for Australian fans, of course, is the time zone. While Europe and the U.S. can settle in at a comfortable evening hour, those of us in Australia will be setting alarms and brewing coffee to catch the action live.

When does it start in Australia?

Opening Night Live officially begins on Tuesday, 19 August at 8:00 PM CEST in Cologne, Germany. That translates to an early morning start on Wednesday, 20 August for Melbourne and the east coast.

  • Melbourne / Sydney / Brisbane (AEST):
    • Pre-show: 3:30 AM
    • Main event: 4:00 AM
    • Expected finish: 6:00 AM
  • Adelaide (ACST):
    • Pre-show: 3:00 AM
    • Main event: 3:30 AM
    • Expected finish: 5:30 AM
  • Perth (AWST):
    • Pre-show: 1:30 AM
    • Main event: 2:00 AM
    • Expected finish: 4:00 AM
  • Darwin (ACST):
    • Pre-show: 3:00 AM
    • Main event: 3:30 AM
    • Expected finish: 5:30 AM
  • Hobart (AEST, same as Melbourne/Sydney):
    • Pre-show: 3:30 AM
    • Main event: 4:00 AM
    • Expected finish: 6:00 AM

No matter where you are in the country, you’ll be waking up before sunrise to catch it live.

Where can you watch it?

As usual, the event will be streamed for free across multiple platforms:

  • YouTube – via The Game Awards and Gamescom official channels
  • Twitch – including pre-show coverage and live reactions
  • Gamescom’s official website – offering a direct stream

Whether you prefer the stability of YouTube or the chat chaos of Twitch, you won’t have trouble finding a feed.

What to expect

Confirmed appearances include Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Resident Evil: Requiem, Silent Hill F, The Outer Worlds 2, Black Myth: Wukong, and Ninja Gaiden 4. More reveals are expected, including surprise announcements from both indie and AAA studios.

With Geoff Keighley promising “world premieres” and a two-hour runtime, there should be something for everyone provided you’re awake to see it.

For Aussie gamers, it’s another middle-of-the-night affair. If you’re keen to see the biggest announcements as they happen, set the alarm, put on the kettle, and brace yourself for some 4:00 AM excitement.

If not? Don’t worry the trailers will be waiting for you in the morning.
