When Ghost of Yōtei launches this October, fans won’t just be exploring the slopes of Hokkaido through their PlayStation they’ll be able to raise a glass in celebration too. Developer Sucker Punch has teamed up with Sapporo, one of Japan’s most iconic breweries, to release a special collaboration beer tied directly to the game.
The limited-run packaging features striking artwork pulled straight from the upcoming open-world adventure, including imagery of the “Yōtei Six” and sweeping vistas inspired by northern Japan. For collectors, it’s a novelty worth seeking out. For casual players, it’s simply a clever way of blending digital escapism with a real-world treat.

Of course, there’s more than just fancy box art here. Each pack comes with a QR code that unlocks an exclusive in-game bonus: the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Once equipped, the charm provides a chance to fire arrows or throw projectiles without using up any ammo a subtle but useful perk, particularly during longer battles where every shot matters.
The announcement is more than just a marketing stunt. It shows how deeply Ghost of Yōtei is tied to Japanese culture, both in setting and spirit. Sapporo, founded in the late 19th century, is a name locals and travellers alike associate with Hokkaido. By pairing the game with a brand so firmly rooted in the region, Sony and Sucker Punch are signalling that this new IP is not just borrowing Japanese aesthetics but celebrating them in authentic ways.
As for timing, the beer is already rolling out across select retailers in North America, with distribution in other regions to be determined. While it’s unclear whether Australian shelves will get the special edition cans, import shops and online marketplaces are likely to be a go-to option for fans outside Japan or the U.S.
With Ghost of Yōtei releasing October 2, the Sapporo tie-in adds a festive touch to the build-up. It’s not every day that a new PlayStation blockbuster launches alongside a beer partnership, and judging from early reactions online, plenty of fans are planning to toast the game’s arrival in style.
