Sandfall Exploring the Possibility of Bringing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 to Nintendo Switch 2

Please make it happen

Sandfall Interactive’s breakout RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, may not be limited to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for long. The studio has acknowledged that it is actively looking into a potential release on Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2.

In a recent discussion, a representative for Sandfall kept expectations in check while leaving the door open:

“We have some possibilities that we will explore, but at the moment we cannot confirm anything.”

While not an outright announcement, the comment signals that the French studio is at least entertaining the idea of expanding its audience to Nintendo’s upcoming hardware.

Why Switch 2 Makes Sense

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been praised for its striking visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, as well as its blend of turn-based combat with real-time mechanics. Bringing that style of game to the Switch 2 would give Nintendo players access to one of 2025’s standout RPGs.

The challenge lies in scaling down the game’s technical demands. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, Expedition 33 runs with detailed environments, complex lighting, and cinematic presentation. Even though Switch 2 is expected to offer a major performance boost over the original hybrid console, some compromises would likely be necessary to achieve stable performance in handheld and docked modes.

For now, nothing is guaranteed. Sandfall has made it clear that while options are being explored, there are no concrete plans to announce. Still, the mere fact that Switch 2 is in the conversation suggests that Nintendo’s new system is powerful enough to attract interest from developers working with cutting-edge engines.

If the port does materialise, it would mark an important milestone: one of the first UE5-driven RPGs of this generation reaching Nintendo hardware. Fans of both the series and the console will be watching closely to see whether Expedition 33 makes the leap.
