Borderlands 4 Post-Launch Plans Revealed at PAX Australia

Can Not Wait

At this year’s PAX Australia, Gearbox took to the stage to share a detailed look at what’s coming next for Borderlands 4. The studio outlined a full post-launch roadmap, complete with free events, new story content, and the return of something long-time fans will recognize immediately the Invincible bosses.

For those who’ve already finished the main campaign, the first piece of free content is right around the corner. Horrors of Kairos, a limited-time Halloween-style event, kicks off on October 23 and runs until November 6. The event brings players back to the blood-soaked planet of Kairos for a seasonal scavenger hunt filled with unique loot, including several new legendary weapons and a pumpkin-themed cosmetic set. According to Gearbox, the skies will literally rain blood during boss encounters a nice touch that fits the series’ offbeat personality.

But that’s just the start. Before the end of the year, players will get their hands on the first major endgame update, which introduces Bloomreaper the Invincible, a new raid-style boss designed to test even the best Vault Hunters. The update also expands Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, adding new modifiers and rewards for high-level players looking for something beyond the campaign grind.

For players looking to pay for something more substantial, the first premium DLC Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day drops on November 20. The add-on centre’s around the character Rush, who joins forces with players to save the chaotic “Mercenary Day” holiday from a time-bending villain known as the Minister of Culture. The pack includes new missions, 24 cosmetic items tied to Vault Cards, four new legendary weapons, and several new vehicle and Echo-4 drone customizations.

Those who picked up the Deluxe or Super Deluxe editions already have the Bounty Pack included, but it’ll also be available separately for anyone who bought the standard edition.

Gearbox didn’t stop there. The studio also teased what’s coming further down the line. Bounty Pack 2 is scheduled for early 2026, with additional packs arriving later in the year. Then there’s the first major story expansion, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, which will introduce an entirely new Vault Hunter named C4SH and explore a darker, more horror-driven side of the Borderlands universe.

The message from Gearbox was clear: Borderlands 4 isn’t just another looter-shooter dropping a few updates before moving on. The game’s post-launch roadmap looks built to keep players invested well into next year, blending free community events with paid expansions that actually add meaningful content.

In an era where so many games lose momentum after launch, Borderlands 4 seems ready to prove that the series’ trademark mix of over-the-top humor, deep loot systems, and co-op chaos still has plenty of life left.
