FX is officially diving into Ubisoft territory. The network has ordered a Far Cry television series, with Noah Hawley and Rob McElhenney attached to lead the project. It’s an unexpected pairing on paper, but one that immediately sets the tone for something ambitious, strange, and very in line with the games’ long history of unhinged villains and out-of-control landscapes.

According to early details from FX, the show will take on an anthology structure, mirroring the games it’s based on. That means each season will feature a completely different setting, cast, and conflict, giving the writers the freedom to explore new locations and new kinds of chaos without being tied down to a single storyline. It also puts the spotlight squarely on characters especially the antagonists just like the games do.

Hawley, best known for Fargo and Legion, already has a reputation for taking existing IP and twisting it into something bold and heady. McElhenney, meanwhile, brings his own sensibilities to the table through years of sharp character work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mythic Quest. The combination suggests a show that could swing between dark humour, violence, and psychological drama without losing its footing.

The announcement alone has already sparked speculation about potential casting, tone, and which corners of the Far Cry universe are ripe for adaptation. The anthology format opens the door for nearly anything: tropical dictatorships, rural cults, snowy warzones, or a completely new setting crafted from scratch.

No release window has been announced yet, but production is expected to move quickly now that the creative team is locked in. FX has made a habit of championing unique genre storytelling, and with Far Cry, it looks like the network is aiming for something wild, tense, and unpredictable exactly what fans would want from the franchise’s jump to TV.
