Nintendo Reveals Full Amiibo Functionality Details for Metroid Prime 4

Very Cool

Nintendo has outlined exactly how amiibo will work in Metroid Prime 4, and the lineup is a lot more involved than fans were expecting. Instead of sticking to simple cosmetic unlocks, several figures now offer gameplay tweaks, stat bonuses, and even post-game rewards. Here’s a breakdown of everything announced.

Samus & Viola Amiibo

The dual-character figure is easily the most feature-heavy of the set. Scanning it gives players the option to change Viola’s color, which looks like it’ll be a fun bit of personalization for anyone who spends a lot of time riding her across Solvalei. The amiibo also tracks the total distance Viola has traveled, which is one of those strangely satisfying stats you’ll probably check more often than you admit.

On top of that, scanning once per day boosts Viola’s Boost Energy regeneration rate. It’s not an overpowered perk, but it does help smooth out traversal, especially in the game’s wider outdoor regions.

Samus (Metroid Prime 4) Amiibo

The new standalone Samus figure ties directly into Viola as well. Scanning it lets you switch up the background music while riding through Solvalei something long-time Metroid players may appreciate given how much atmosphere the series gets from its soundtracks.

More importantly, scanning once per day grants a bonus Health Shield that absorbs up to 99 points of damage. It also fully restores Samus’ health the moment the shield activates, making it a handy safety net without feeling like a cheat button.

Sylux Amiibo

Sylux’s figure has one of the most interesting unlocks. After you’ve beaten the game, scanning it will let you watch the complete versions of the fragmented cinematics that play throughout the story. These can still be viewed without the amiibo, but only if you manage a full 100% scan rate and item collection so owning the figure offers a far more relaxed route.

Each time you scan it, the amiibo also plays a random Sylux voice line. It’s a small touch, but fans of the character will probably get a kick out of it.

Legacy Metroid Amiibo Support

Nintendo also confirmed that a range of existing Metroid-related amiibo will trigger small bonuses:

  • Samus (Metroid series)
  • Samus (Super Smash Bros.)
  • Zero Suit Samus (Super Smash Bros.)
  • Ridley (Super Smash Bros.)
  • Dark Samus (Super Smash Bros.)

Scanning any of these plays a random in-game sound effect. It’s simple, but it’s still nice to see that older figures aren’t being left behind entirely.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond comes to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on December 4, 2025.
