Hitman 4 Quietly Confirmed By IO Interactive’s CEO

It looks like Agent 47 isn’t done with us just yet. In a recent interview, IO Interactive’s CEO Hakan Abrak all but confirmed that a fourth mainline Hitman entry is now in active development marking the series’ full return after a brief hiatus during the studio’s shift toward its upcoming 007 project.

The confirmation didn’t arrive with the usual fireworks. There was no teaser trailer, no cryptic tweet, and no dramatic reveal during a showcase. Instead, Abrak casually mentioned that the studio had “returned to the world of assassination” and that a “new major Hitman game” is currently in progress. For longtime fans, that was all it took.

A Return To Form

Since the launch of Hitman 3 in 2021, IO Interactive has largely focused on evolving the World of Assassination into a single, unified platform. While that approach produced an enormous amount of content, players had started to wonder whether the narrative and mechanical innovations of a full sequel would ever materialize again. Abrak’s latest comments finally put those fears to rest.

According to the CEO, the team working on the next Hitman has been expanding steadily, and the studio has reached a point where “meaningful production” is underway. Although no details were given regarding setting, gameplay shifts, or release timing, Abrak emphasized that the developers “want to push assassination sandbox design further than ever before.”

No Release Window Yet

While the CEO’s comments act as the clearest acknowledgment of Hitman 4 we’ve heard so far, nothing resembling a release target has been offered. With IO simultaneously developing its ambitious James Bond title, it’s unlikely the next Hitman will appear in the immediate future.

Still, fans finally have something concrete to look forward to: the bald assassin is officially back in the conversation, and IO Interactive seems eager to explore what a new chapter in the franchise should look like.

For now, that’s enough to get the community buzzing again. Agent 47 has always been patient and it looks like we’ll need to be as well.
