The Sacred series is getting an unexpected revival this time with a retro twist. Developer SparklingBit, working under license from THQ Nordic, has revealed Sacred: Last Pixel of Ancaria, a new entry built as a 16-bit-style RPG. It’s not a remake or a remaster, but a reimagining of the universe through an old-school lens meant to evoke the look and feel of early ‘90s action RPGs.
According to the announcement, SparklingBit plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign on April 14, 2026, giving fans the chance to support the project directly. While full gameplay details are still under wraps, the studio has positioned Last Pixel of Ancaria as both a tribute to the original Sacred titles and an accessible starting point for newcomers who never touched the classic PC games.
The Sacred franchise hasn’t seen a major release since 2014’s Sacred 3, a game that famously veered away from the open-world ARPG formula that made the series popular in the first place. Last Pixel of Ancaria appears to be a course correction, trading modern visual fidelity for sprite-based nostalgia and a tighter focus on classic action-RPG structure.
SparklingBit hasn’t shown extensive gameplay yet, but early artwork suggests the game will lean into vibrant pixel art, fast combat, and a world designed around exploration rather than linear progression. For long-time fans, it’s a surprising but welcome direction one that aims to blend Sacred’s personality with the charm of old-school handheld and SNES-era RPGs.
More information is expected as the Kickstarter date approaches, including character classes, world details, and how this new project fits into Ancaria’s lore. For now, it’s simply refreshing to see Sacred return in any form, especially one this different.
