Milestone has officially confirmed that Screamer will launch on March 26, 2026, bringing the long-dormant racing franchise back into the spotlight after more than two decades.
Revealed during The Game Awards 2025, the new Screamer is not positioned as a straightforward revival of the original ’90s arcade racer. Instead, Milestone is reimagining the series as a narrative-driven, high-speed combat racer that blends futuristic vehicles, aggressive rivalries, and a heavier focus on atmosphere and story than the franchise has ever attempted before.
According to the developer, Screamer is built around a dark, stylized world where racing is less about sport and more about survival. Players will compete in underground leagues, facing off against rival drivers with distinct personalities, motivations, and vendettas. Vehicles are heavily customizable, not just cosmetically, but mechanically, allowing players to tailor handling, speed, and combat capabilities to suit different race scenarios.
Milestone has also emphasized that the game’s structure leans into cinematic presentation. Races are framed with cutscenes and story beats that push character arcs forward, an approach that marks a clear departure from the studio’s traditionally simulation-focused portfolio. Combat mechanics play a central role, with players able to disable opponents through aggressive driving, tactical boosts, and environmental hazards.
The March 26, 2026 release date positions Screamer squarely in a competitive window, but Milestone appears confident in the project’s identity. The studio has described the game as a passion project, aiming to modernize a cult classic without losing the raw edge that defined the original.
Screamer is currently confirmed for PC and modern consoles, with additional gameplay details expected to be revealed in the coming months.

been waiting for this for over a year now. I’m kinda hoping it will fill the void left for me since the original NEED FOR SPEED: MOST WANTED (so badly want a remaster of this)
