Square Enix has announced Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, a new team-based battle game coming to mobile devices this March. The title is being developed by Square Enix in collaboration with NHN PlayArt, and will release on iOS and Android.
Pre-registration for the game is now open via the App Store and Google Play ahead of its launch.
A New Take on Dissidia Battles
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy introduces a new style of gameplay for the long-running spin-off series tied to Final Fantasy.
Instead of traditional one-on-one battles, the new title focuses on three-versus-three team-based combat. Two teams compete simultaneously, battling waves of monsters while racing to defeat a powerful boss before the opposing team.
The format blends cooperative action with competitive pacing, creating matches where strategy and teamwork play a key role in victory.
Iconic Final Fantasy Heroes Return
Players will be able to take control of several well-known characters from across the Final Fantasy universe. Confirmed fighters include:
- Warrior of Light
- Cloud Strife
- Lightning
Each character falls into a specific combat role such as Melee, Ranged, Agile, or Support, encouraging players to build balanced teams. Square Enix says additional characters will be added over time following the game’s launch.
Abilities, Customization, and Strategy
Combat in Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy revolves around collecting and equipping abilities to gain an advantage during battles. Players can customize their loadouts using a variety of skills, allowing different strategies depending on team composition.
The game also features newly illustrated character art created by a group of contributing artists, giving familiar heroes fresh visual designs.
Despite the action-focused gameplay, the developers are aiming to keep the controls accessible, offering simple touch controls alongside multiple control configuration options for players who prefer different setups.
A New Story Set in Modern Tokyo
Beyond its multiplayer battles, the game also includes a new narrative set in modern-day Tokyo, where characters from across the Final Fantasy universe have mysteriously appeared.
The story will feature full Japanese voice acting and cel-shaded visuals. Players will also be able to view chat-style episodes that highlight interactions between characters, offering a look at their lives in this unusual setting.
Social Features and Player Customization
Customization plays a big role outside of combat as well. Players can dress characters in their classic outfits or new modern clothing, while also collecting music tracks from across the Final Fantasy series.
Additional social features include profile customization, in-game chat, and community interactions designed to bring fans of the franchise together.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is scheduled to launch on iOS via the App Store and Android via Google Play this March, with pre-registration currently available ahead of release.
