The studio behind the Until Dawn Remake has officially shut its doors. Ballistic Moon has been formally dissolved, with final paperwork filed with the UK government in February 2026.
The closure brings an end to the studio’s short lifespan, just over a year after the release of its only project.
A Short-Lived Studio
Ballistic Moon was founded in 2019 by former Supermassive Games developers, including Duncan Kershaw, Neil McEwan, and Chris Lamb.
The team’s debut and ultimately only release was the Until Dawn remake, which launched in October 2024. Despite anticipation surrounding the return of the cult-favourite horror title, the remake received a mixed reception, currently sitting at a 70 on Metacritic.
Quiet Layoffs Preceded the Closure
Following the game’s launch, Ballistic Moon reportedly began winding down operations.
By December 2024, the studio had quietly laid off its remaining staff who had been retained for post-launch support. At the time, there was little public indication of the studio’s long-term future, but the layoffs signalled that its operations were coming to an end.
The official dissolution filing now confirms that the studio has fully ceased to exist as a company.
No Comment From Sony or the Studio
As of now, neither Sony nor representatives from Ballistic Moon have issued a public statement regarding the closure.
Previous attempts to contact both parties reportedly went unanswered, leaving questions around the circumstances of the shutdown and whether there were plans for the studio beyond the Until Dawn remake.
A Brief Chapter Comes to an End
Ballistic Moon’s closure underscores the volatility of the games industry, particularly for smaller studios tied to a single project.
With just one release to its name, the team’s time in the industry was brief but its work on Until Dawn ensured it played a role in revisiting one of modern horror gaming’s most recognizable titles.
For now, the studio’s dissolution closes the book on Ballistic Moon, with no indication of future projects or a successor team emerging from its former staff.
