Resident Evil Requiem Smashes 6 Million Sales, Sets New Franchise Record for Fastest Launch

Resident Evil Requiem

Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem has already surpassed 6 million copies sold, officially making it the fastest-selling entry in the long-running Resident Evil franchise.

According to a press release published on March 16, the latest mainline entry hit the milestone just days after launch, climbing from 5 million units sold within its first five days to over 6 million shortly after. That kind of momentum not only signals a massive commercial win for Capcom, but also underscores just how much appetite there still is for survival horror at a blockbuster scale.

For context, Resident Evil has seen its fair share of huge launches over the years, but Requiem’s opening performance puts it firmly at the top of the franchise’s sales charts in terms of speed. It’s a notable achievement for a series that’s been consistently reinventing itself for nearly three decades.

That milestone timing isn’t accidental either. Capcom is gearing up to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil on March 22, 2026, and the company is clearly leaning into the moment. Alongside the sales update, Capcom confirmed that multiple anniversary initiatives are already in the works.

These include a collaboration with Universal Studios Japan tied directly to Resident Evil Requiem, as well as a series of orchestral concerts planned across Japan, the United States, and Europe. It’s a global celebration that reflects the franchise’s reach and its staying power.

Beyond the milestone and anniversary plans, Capcom also reiterated that post-launch support for Requiem is already in development. While specific details remain under wraps, the publisher confirmed that ongoing updates and additional content are planned, suggesting a longer lifecycle for the game compared to some previous entries.

That continued support could be key. Resident Evil has increasingly leaned into post-launch content in recent years, and with Requiem already setting records, there’s a clear incentive to keep players engaged well beyond its initial release window.

If Requiem’s opening numbers are anything to go by, the series is heading into its 30th year with more momentum than ever.
