Announced over the weekend, Sony are increasing the cost of PlayStation 5 hardware.
The article written by Isabelle Tomatis posted to the PlayStation Blog says that due to the “global economic landscape” it is a “necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.”
Obviously, we are all feeling those global economic pressures & tech feels especially hit hard due to Memory prices, but however justifiable, this will no doubt hit extra hard for anyone looking to buy into the generation ahead of a big year with games like GTA VI & Wolverine releasing later this year.
Confirmed Australian Recommended Retail Pricing:
| Hardware | From | To (April 2nd) |
| PlayStation 5 Disc | $829.95 | $999.95 |
| PlayStation 5 Digital | $749.95 | $919.95 |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | $1199.95 | $1399.95 |
| PlayStation Portal | $329.95 | $389.95 |
For comparison the Xbox Series X is currently $849 but has not been immune to price increases after starting the generation at $749 alongside the equally priced PlayStation 5 (in late 2020).
