Wanderstop Studio Ivy Road Is Shutting Down, But One Final Surprise Is Still Coming

Sad news for another great game

Ivy Road, the studio behind Wanderstop, will officially shut down on March 31, the developer has announced. The team says it was unable to secure funding for its next project, forcing the studio to close its doors.

In a statement shared this week, Ivy Road said it had been developing a new game called Engine Angel, but funding for the project “didn’t come to fruition.” The studio added that it had also been unable to find a publishing partner to keep the project moving.

Despite the closure, Ivy Road says Wanderstop isn’t done just yet.

According to the studio, there is still “one last surprise brewing” for the game something the team has apparently been working on for the last year to help Wanderstop reach more players. More details are expected to be shared by Annapurna Interactive at a later date.

Ivy Road also confirmed that Wanderstop will remain available to purchase and play on its current platforms even after the studio shuts down.

It’s a rough ending for a studio that arrived with a lot of creative pedigree behind it, and another reminder of just how brutal the current state of game funding has become especially for smaller teams trying to get a second project off the ground.

For now, though, Wanderstop isn’t quite finished.
