The upcoming Fable reboot has reportedly been delayed internally, though it may still be on track for a 2026 release window.
According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, the game has been “pushed internally,” suggesting a shift behind the scenes at Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games.
However, the delay doesn’t necessarily mean the game has slipped out of 2026 just yet. The report claims the team is still aiming to launch this year, despite the internal movement.
One of the key factors appears to be timing.
Microsoft is reportedly cautious about launching Fable too close to Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected to dominate the holiday window. If the RPG were to slip too far beyond that release, it could potentially push the game into early 2027 instead.
At the moment, no official delay has been announced, and Xbox has not commented on the report.
Fable is currently in development as a full reboot of the long-running RPG series, and is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
For now, this remains firmly in report territory but if accurate, it suggests Xbox may be carefully positioning one of its biggest upcoming releases to avoid getting buried in a stacked launch window.
