Offworld Industries’ Squad, the previously PC only realistic tactical First Person Shooter, in partnership with Secret Mode, is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series in 2027.
Kicking off with an Alpha preview on PlayStation 5 from October 16th to 25th (Canadian time) there is no release date just yet but promises of a beta too before launch.
During the event, players will join the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the People Liberation Army to fight over the strategic rail line that runs through Gorodok.
During the event Steam players will be able to claim the Recon Team Pack with five skins available across ten weapons.
The plan going forward is for console and PC to have content parity and receive all updates at the same time (unless a bug fix is platform specific). Cross play will be supported however Console and PC players will need to play together on servers that specifically support it. Cross progression & cross purchase will not be supported, and mod support will not be available on console, but the developers are looking into it.
Subject to finalisation, Squad on console will only have one performance mode, and is targeting the following:
| Resolution | Frame Rate | |
| PlayStation 5 | Dynamic 4K | 60 |
| Xbox Series S | Dynamic 1440p | 30 |
| Xbox Series X | Dynamic 4K | 60 |
The thing that the dev blog announcing this news puts the most emphasis on is that this is healthy for the game as it will expand the player base and allow the developers to put more investment into the game whilst keeping PC players core to the experience. This new era of the game is being dubbed “One Squad”. This investment can already be seen as Squad One has feature parity on console requiring investment in the technology and optimisation of Squad to the benefit of all players. There will be some console only UI and control optimisations made, which is noteworthy as there will be no keyboard and mouse support on console.

Squad is a fantastic video game, and it is awesome to see it continuing to be supported and grow.
