One of the biggest surprises of Sony’s June 2026 State of Play showcase was the reveal of Until Dawn 2, a long-awaited sequel to the cult-classic horror adventure that first terrified players over a decade ago.

Developed by Firesprite, the sequel introduces a brand-new cast and story while retaining the choice-driven survival horror formula that made the original such a fan favorite.

The debut trailer follows a group of paranormal content creators and self-proclaimed ghost hunters who make a living staging supernatural encounters for their audience. Their latest investigation, however, takes a deadly turn when they stumble upon a genuine horror that begins hunting them one by one.

The cinematic reveal showcased the series’ trademark blend of tense exploration, quick-time events, branching choices, and life-or-death decisions. As with the original game, every major character can potentially survive or die depending entirely on the player’s actions throughout the story.

The sequel also boasts an impressive cast, including Neil Newbon, Peter Stormare, and Dacre Montgomery, suggesting Sony is once again leaning heavily into the interactive horror movie experience that helped define the original release.

While gameplay details remain limited, the trailer hints at multiple branching paths, supernatural threats, and the return of the butterfly-effect decision system that can dramatically alter the outcome of the story.

More than ten years after the original became one of PlayStation’s most beloved narrative-driven horror games, Until Dawn 2 looks set to deliver another terrifying adventure filled with difficult choices, shocking twists, and countless ways for its story to unfold.

Until Dawn 2 is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5.
