Halo’s Project Ekur Has Been Cancelled

Halo Studios

A new report claims that Halo Studios has cancelled its unannounced multiplayer project, Project Ekur, ending development on what was reportedly an experimental new entry in the Halo franchise.

The news was first reported by Rebs Gaming before being corroborated by Windows Central editor Jez Corden, who stated that he had verified the cancellation.

“Halo Studios was working on a multiplayer title known as Project Ekur, which has been canceled. I’ve verified that as 100% true.”

No official reason for the cancellation has been provided, and neither Halo Studios nor Xbox has commented publicly on the reports.

According to previous rumours, Project Ekur began life after the cancellation of Project Tatanka, the Halo Infinite battle royale project from Certain Affinity. The prototype was reportedly designed to test how Halo gameplay translated to Unreal Engine 5, while also evaluating whether assets from the Slipspace Engine could be successfully migrated.

The project was also said to feature extraction shooter mechanics inspired by Halo 5’s Warzone mode, along with playable Spartans and Elites, each offering extensive customization options.

While details remain scarce, the reported cancellation comes amid continued changes within the Halo franchise. Recent reports suggest Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are currently in development following the success of the original Halo: Combat Evolved remake.

As always, until Halo Studios officially comments, the reported cancellation of Project Ekur should be treated as unconfirmed.
