The new expansion introduces 135 collectible cards, powerful Old Gods, the Assemble keyword and a new campaign-style Journey system.
The Old Gods have returned to Hearthstone. Blizzard has officially launched Reign of the Black Empire, a new expansion featuring 135 collectible cards, new gameplay mechanics and the return of some of Warcraft’s most powerful entities.
Set during the height of the Black Empire, the expansion puts players in the middle of an ancient conflict between the Old Gods and the Titan-forged constructs created to oppose them.
Four Old Gods Return
Players can command C’Thun, N’Zoth, Yogg-Saron or Y’Shaarj, each arriving with four unique abilities capable of dramatically changing the course of a match.
However, players can include only one Old God in their deck, making the choice of which deity to serve a key strategic decision.
New Assemble Keyword
The expansion introduces Assemble, a new keyword that allows players to create customised minions by combining options from a curated pool. The mechanic opens up new possibilities for experimentation, powerful combinations and strategies tailored to individual decks.
Players can also harness the Titan-forged, powerful constructs and ancient defenders created by the Titans to fight against the Black Empire. These cards introduce additional tools and strategies for confronting the Old Gods and their armies.
Journey Introduces a New Campaign Experience
Alongside the new cards and mechanics, Hearthstone is introducing Journey, a new system accessible through the game’s Journal.
Journey brings together story content, Journey Quests, rewards and events into a unified campaign that unfolds throughout an expansion, offering players a more connected way to experience new content.
Reign of the Black Empire is available now. Players can read the full 37.0 patch notes for additional details or learn more about the new Hearthstone Journey system.
