Bungie has revealed its plans to restore several classic Destiny 2 campaigns, raids and activities, but players will have to wait until early 2028.
Bungie has confirmed that its plans to bring back vaulted Destiny 2 content won’t be completed until early 2028, with the developer outlining an extensive production schedule to restore several classic campaigns, raids and activities.
In its latest community update, Bungie revealed that the project is currently in pre-production, which is expected to continue until January or February 2027. Full production will then take approximately 12 months, putting the planned completion date in the opening months of 2028.
The developer acknowledged the scale of the project, explaining that restoring years of previously removed content will require considerable development and porting work.
Which Destiny 2 Campaigns Are Returning?
Bungie has outlined several major pieces of Destiny 2 content it intends to restore, including some of the game’s earliest story expansions.
The planned returning content includes:
- The Red War campaign
- Curse of Osiris campaign
- Warmind campaign
- Forsaken campaign
- Strikes from the returning campaigns and expansions
- Raids and Raid Lairs from those releases
- The Menagerie activity, complete with reprised rewards
These additions would give players another opportunity to experience some of Destiny 2’s original storylines, many of which have been unavailable since Bungie introduced the Destiny Content Vault.
However, the studio has also identified several potential additions that could arrive after the initial restoration work is completed.
These stretch goals include returning free-roam destinations, seasonal activities, additional PvP maps and updated weapons from classic raids and Raid Lairs.
Bungie stressed that these additional features are not currently part of its primary restoration plans.

Bungie Teases Destiny Legacy and Future Updates
Alongside its content restoration plans, Bungie teased several other projects aimed at rebuilding its relationship with the Destiny community.
One of these is a mysterious initiative called Destiny Legacy, which the developer describes as an effort to deliver the complete Destiny experience to players.
Although details remain limited, the announcement has sparked speculation that Bungie could be exploring a classic version of Destiny, similar to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft Classic.
However, Bungie has not officially confirmed what Destiny Legacy will involve.
The developer also teased a community-focused Destiny 2 celebration featuring new updates, alongside another unannounced event accompanied by the message “We’re back.”
More information about these initiatives is expected in February 2027.
Bungie Looks to Rebuild Player Trust
The announcement comes as Bungie continues working to rebuild confidence among Destiny players following years of criticism surrounding removed content and the direction of the franchise.
The developer acknowledged past mistakes and reiterated its commitment to supporting the Destiny community moving forward.
Bungie also highlighted the importance of its upcoming Marathon updates, suggesting that the success and long-term sustainability of the extraction shooter will play a significant role in shaping the studio’s future.
For now, Bungie says development of the Destiny 2 content restoration project remains on schedule, with early 2028 still the expected completion window.
While the wait will undoubtedly disappoint some longtime players, the planned return of Destiny 2’s original campaigns and activities represents a significant step towards making more of the game’s history accessible again.
