New footage and images from what appears to be a closed test have surfaced, potentially giving us our first look at HoYoverse’s ambitious new MMO. HoYoverse’s next major project may have just leaked.

Footage and images reportedly taken from a closed test of the company’s upcoming MMO have started appearing online, with the game seemingly carrying the title Nodusfall.

The project is said to be an open-world MMO built using Unreal Engine 5, marking a potential departure from previous HoYoverse games such as Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, which were built using Unity.

A Dark Fantasy MMO With Monster Hunter-Style Combat?

Based on the leaked footage, Nodusfall appears to feature a darker fantasy setting, with combat focused on weapon weight, stamina management and large-scale boss encounters.

Some of the gameplay has drawn comparisons to Monster Hunter, particularly due to the apparent emphasis on challenging encounters and larger-than-life creatures.

The game was previously rumoured under the codename Genesis, with reports suggesting HoYoverse was working on a fantasy MMO featuring systems powered by AI, including an “AI-stimulated ecosystem,” advanced battle AI and intelligent NPCs.

A trademark for Nodusfall was also reportedly registered earlier this year, adding further weight to the possibility that this is the project’s official title. Of course, as this information comes from leaked development footage, plans could change before the game is officially revealed.

It’s also unclear whether Nodusfall will follow HoYoverse’s familiar free-to-play and gacha model. For now, HoYoverse has yet to officially announce the project, but if these leaks are genuine, Nodusfall is definitely the studio’s most ambitious game yet.
