Sony will not showcase products at CES 2027, marking another step back from one of the world’s biggest consumer electronics events as the company shifts its focus toward entertainment, gaming, and intellectual property.
Sony confirmed to Bloomberg that neither the company nor its affiliates plan to exhibit products at the January 2027 event.
“We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business,” Sony said in a statement, highlighting its growing emphasis on games, anime, films, music, and technology supporting creators.
Sony Continues to Move Away From Consumer Electronics
Sony’s absence from CES 2027 follows a broader shift in the company’s approach to consumer hardware.
The company did not operate its own booth at CES 2026, although its Afeela electric vehicle project with Honda was represented on the show floor. That project was subsequently scrapped, with both companies agreeing to review the direction of their joint venture.
Sony has also stepped back from parts of the television market, handing control of its Bravia TV business to TCL as it reassesses its consumer electronics strategy.
However, gaming remains an important part of Sony’s business. PlayStation has continued expanding beyond consoles into products such as gaming monitors, headphones, and speakers.
Could Sony Announce the PS6 in 2027?
Sony’s decision to skip CES 2027 also raises questions about where the company could reveal its next major hardware products.
The PlayStation 6 has yet to be officially announced, and there is no confirmed reveal date. However, if Sony does unveil its next-generation console in 2027, CES will not be the venue for that announcement.
For now, Sony appears increasingly focused on strengthening its entertainment businesses and expanding its intellectual property rather than making a major presence at traditional consumer electronics trade shows.
