Gears of War: E-Day Multiplayer Revealed

Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition have officially unveiled the multiplayer component of Gears of War: E-Day, releasing a brand-new reveal trailer alongside an in-depth developer overview ahead of the game’s launch this October.

The showcase introduces Horde Siege, a new 12-player cooperative mode that expands on the classic Horde formula. Instead of a single team, Horde Siege features three squads of four players tackling separate objectives across the largest multiplayer maps in the series. Each squad can complete optional objectives, earn additional rewards, and influence how battles unfold, creating a more dynamic experience than previous Horde modes.

The trailer also marks the return of Versus, bringing back the franchise’s iconic player-versus-player multiplayer with updates designed around E-Day‘s new movement system. According to The Coalition, the mode retains the fast-paced, squad-focused gameplay fans expect while introducing new opportunities for clutch plays and tactical movement.

The developer overview confirms that four multiplayer modes will be available in Versus at launch, while also teasing additional post-launch content planned for the game.

Players won’t have to wait long to try it themselves. The Early Access Open Beta begins August 6 for players who pre-order the game on Xbox Series X|S or Steam, as well as subscribers to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6 for Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, and will be available day one on Game Pass.
