Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson received $38 million (USD) in total compensation during the company’s latest fiscal year, according to a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The compensation marks an increase of roughly $8 million over the previous fiscal year and includes salary, bonuses, and stock awards. The filing also states that Wilson’s total compensation is approximately 305 times greater than EA’s median employee compensation of $126,612.
The disclosure comes after EA laid off employees earlier this year, including staff across the four studios that make up Battlefield Studios, as part of what the company described as an organizational realignment.
The SEC filing also revealed that Wilson exclusively travels on private aircraft for both business and personal travel. EA said the arrangement is based on threat intelligence and is intended to ensure the safety of Wilson and his family.
Several other EA executives also received multi-million-dollar compensation packages during the fiscal year:
- Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment – $13.7 million
- Stuart Canfield, Chief Financial Officer – $11.3 million
- Jake Schatz, Chief Legal Officer – $8.4 million
- Mala Singh, Chief People Officer – $8.3 million
According to the filing, EA highlighted the success of its artificial intelligence initiatives and the commercial performance of Battlefield 6 as key achievements during the year.
The report arrives as EA continues moving toward its proposed acquisition by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which has already received approval from the European Commission. The transaction has yet to be finalized.
The contrast between rising executive compensation and recent layoffs is likely to draw renewed scrutiny from employees and the wider gaming community as EA continues to reshape its business.
Lets us know what you think about this in the comments below I think this is freaking wild and ridiculous.
