The Digimon franchise has reportedly reached its highest profits in history, surpassing the previous peak set during the height of the original anime’s popularity in the early 2000s.
The news comes from Bandai Namco Entertainment President Nao Udagawa, who discussed the franchise’s recent performance in an interview with Weekly Famitsu.
According to Udagawa, much of the success has been driven by Digimon Story: Time Stranger, alongside the continued strength of the Digimon Trading Card Game. The combined performance of the games and card game has pushed the franchise to record earnings, although Bandai Namco did not provide specific figures.
Time Stranger has continued to perform strongly following its release on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 on July 9, with Udagawa expecting the franchise to grow further when the game’s major DLC expansion arrives in 2027.
It’s a notable turnaround for Digimon, particularly given that the franchise’s previous financial high point came during the massive popularity of the original anime around the year 2000.
With Time Stranger now available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC, and the trading card game continuing to expand its audience, Digimon appears to be enjoying one of the strongest periods in its history.
