HandyGames Is Now THQ Nordic Mobile

THQ Mobile

Same people, new name, and a much clearer focus on bringing premium PC and console games to mobile.

HandyGames is officially changing its name.

THQ Nordic has announced that its mobile publishing arm will now operate as THQ Nordic Mobile, marking what the company describes as a strategic realignment of its mobile business.

The change isn’t simply about putting a new logo on the same operation, either. THQ Nordic Mobile is positioning itself around one specific goal: bringing premium, critically acclaimed PC and console games to mobile platforms.

The biggest takeaway from the announcement is THQ Nordic’s apparent interest in bringing more premium gaming experiences to mobile.

Mobile hardware has become increasingly capable of running games that would have been unthinkable on a smartphone just a few years ago, and companies across the industry are beginning to take high-end mobile ports more seriously. THQ Nordic Mobile appears to be positioning itself specifically for that market.

By separating publishing operations from internal development, the company can focus THQ Nordic Mobile entirely on identifying established PC and console titles that could work on phones and tablets, while HandyGames Studios continues to handle development and technical support.

Whether that leads to ports of some of THQ Nordic’s biggest franchises remains unknown.

But considering the publisher’s catalogue includes properties such as Darksiders, Destroy All Humans!, Kingdoms of Amalur, Wreckfest and ELEX, there is certainly no shortage of games that could eventually make the jump.

The team remains largely the same, HandyGames Studios will continue developing games, and THQ Nordic’s mobile ambitions appear to be getting significantly more serious.
