According to a report from Bloomberg, the upcoming Horizon spin-off is being reevaluated internally, with Guerrilla Games potentially moving away from its original live-service ambitions.
The current plan is reportedly to strip back many of the live-service elements and transform Horizon Hunters Gathering into a more traditional cooperative multiplayer experience. The reworked version is said to feature a story mode and a significantly smaller scope than originally planned, marking a major shift for the project.
The game has not been cancelled, but its future may depend on its next major milestone. Reports suggest the development team has until December to impress PlayStation executives, while some developers are already being reassigned to other projects. So not a good sign.
It’s another sign of PlayStation reassessing its live-service strategy after a number of high-profile setbacks. However, Horizon Hunters Gathering appears to have survived for now Surprisingly and it will be interesting to see what the game eventually looks like if this reported overhaul goes ahead. Guess we will have to just wait and see now.
