Nintendo now owns 100% of Monolith Soft

Nintendo and and Monolith Soft developers of the critically acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles games have now officially become one. Monolith Soft came under Nintendo’s umbrella back in 2007, and it is no doubt one of the biggest wins in Nintendo’s arsenal of studios to call upon.

Monolith Soft, is a Japanese video game development studio originally owned by Namco (later Bandai Namco) until being bought out by Nintendo in 2007, best known for the Xenoblade Chronicles series of games. The company was founded in 1999 by Tetsuya Takahashi with the support and cooperation of Masaya Nakamura, the founder of Namco. Their first project was the Xenosaga series, a spiritual successor to the Square-developed Xenogears.

Now as of today, Nintendo officially owns 100% of Monolith Soft and its IP. You might think that Nintendo was already fully in control of Monolith Soft, but they’ve actually only held 96% of the company’s stake since 2011. The other 4% were left to Monolith Soft’s founders, but that is no longer the case. Its unknow why the founders gave up there remaining 4% or what this will mean for the future of the Xenoblade games will this lead to more or less only time will tell
