Bandai Namco is giving fans of tactical mecha battles a chance to jump into the cockpit early. On August 8, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch owners will be able to download a free demo of Super Robot Wars Y, a brand-new entry in the long-running crossover strategy series.
This isn’t just a throwaway teaser. The demo covers the entire first chapter of the game, letting players get a feel for the grid-based combat, cinematic attack animations, and the mix of classic and new mecha series included in this installment. Progress made in the trial—including your squad lineup, earned resources, and any upgrades—will carry over to the full release. Finish the demo, and you’ll even unlock an exclusive bonus item once the main game launches.
For those unfamiliar, Super Robot Wars blends characters and mechs from multiple anime and manga into one grand tactical RPG. It’s a series known for fan-pleasing story mash-ups, over-the-top battle sequences, and a level of customization that can hook players for dozens of hours. Y promises to expand the formula with fresh scenarios, updated visuals, and new crossover moments that series veterans won’t want to miss.
