Larian Studios has formally announced a new entry in the Divinity franchise, confirming the studio’s return to the fantasy universe that helped define its identity long before Baldur’s Gate 3 became a global phenomenon.
Details are scarce for now, but the announcement makes one thing clear: Divinity is back on the menu. Larian has not yet clarified whether this project is a continuation of the Divinity: Original Sin lineage, a full reboot, or something structurally different altogether. What has been confirmed is that the studio is once again turning its full creative attention toward its own world of Rivellon.
The timing is notable. Following the runaway success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian publicly committed to stepping away from Dungeons & Dragons and Wizards of the Coast, opting instead to refocus on internally owned IP. This new Divinity project appears to be the first major result of that decision.
Historically, the Divinity series has served as Larian’s experimental backbone a place where systems-heavy RPG design, reactive storytelling, and player-driven problem solving were refined before being pushed to a wider audience. If Baldur’s Gate 3 represented the studio operating at blockbuster scale, Divinity has always been where Larian felt most at home creatively.
No platforms, release window, or gameplay specifics have been announced at this stage, and Larian has emphasized that the project is still early. That said, expectations are understandably high. Any new RPG from the studio now carries the weight of a genre-defining hit behind it and a fanbase eager to see how that momentum translates back into an original universe.
For now, this is a confirmation rather than a full reveal. But for long-time fans of Larian’s work, it’s a significant one. Rivellon isn’t finished yet.
