SNK has launched a new 30th anniversary website for Metal Slug, and it’s already teasing what looks like a major return for the long-running series.
Alongside a retrospective video celebrating the franchise’s history, the site includes a clear message about the future with the phrase “Mission Reboot” appearing alongside “A New Mission Awaits.”
According to the official site, SNK is planning to “reignite and reboot the series” through a range of new projects, including new game-related developments.
For context, the Metal Slug series which first launched back in 1996 built its reputation on fast-paced run-and-gun gameplay, detailed pixel art, and arcade-style action, becoming one of SNK’s most recognisable franchises over the last three decades.
What exactly “Mission Reboot” means is still unclear.
Right now, there are no confirmed platforms, release windows, or gameplay details, but the wording strongly suggests this is more than just a re-release or collection. Instead, it points toward a full revival or reimagining of the franchise.
With SNK leaning heavily into its legacy IP lately, the timing lines up and after years of smaller spin-offs and ports, this could finally be the proper return fans have been waiting for.
For now, though, all we have is a tease.
