Valve has officially confirmed the Australian launch details for the Steam Controller, with the device set to release on May 5 for $149 AUD.
Pre-orders will go live the same day at 3:00AM AEST via the Steam website.
Features and Hardware
The Steam Controller packs in a range of features aimed at bridging PC and console-style play, including:
- Magnetic thumbsticks
- High-definition rumble
- Grip-enabled gyro controls
- Dual trackpads
- Back buttons
- Dedicated Steam and Quick Access buttons
It’s designed to work with anything that runs Steam, giving players flexibility across a wide range of PC titles.
Steam Controller Puck Included
One of the more unique additions is the Steam Controller Puck, which comes bundled with the device.
The puck acts as:
- A wireless transmitter
- A charging station
The controller also supports Bluetooth connectivity, offering multiple ways to connect depending on setup.
While we’re still waiting on firm details for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, this marks one of the first concrete steps in Valve’s broader push into living room hardware.
And with a confirmed price and release date locked in, the Steam Controller is officially ready to hit Australia and Valve’s hardware ambitions are starting to take shape.
